Founded in 2010, the Global Student Initiative (GSI) is a City College of New York fund raising organization that illuminates global causes and promotes cultural diversity.
Our efforts have made an impact in the areas of poverty, education, and domestic violence.Our recent work involved working with Safe Horizon, to combat domestic violence nation wide.
We are always looking for charities to contribute to on a semester basis (every three months). If you would like to recommend a charitable organization to us, please visit our contact page.

The Constitution of the
Global Student Initiative (GSI) of The City College of New York
We, the members of the Global Student Initiative, in order to better the conditions of our world and promote the uniqueness of all cultures, hereby establish this constitution of the Global Student Initiative of the City College of the City University of New York.
Article I – Name
Section 1.
The name of this club is the Global Student Initiative of the City College of New York.
Section 2 .
This club is not affiliated with any off-campus group.
Article II – Purpose, Power and Scope
Section 1.
The purpose of this club shall be to raise money and awareness of problems around the globe and to send donations, whether they are through cash donations or supplies, to various organizations, hospitals, hostels etc., that are in the need of help. Furthermore, the purpose of the Global Student Initiative of the City College of New York is to unite students of all cultures and also to act as an outlet to enhance social networking and promote cultural diversity.
Section 2.
These purposes shall be achieved by conducting various fundraisers which shall be decided on by the executives of the club and finalized by the President. We accept and understand that under the authority granted by the Board of Trustees, as specified in the Board of Higher Education By-Laws Article 15.2, the Undergraduate Student Government legislative decisions shall take precedence over those of this and any other student club.
Article III – Membership
Section 1. Qualifications
a) All members of the club must be students attending the City College of New York.
b) No person shall be denied membership in this club because of race, color, sex, handicap, national origin, religious affiliation or belief.
c) There is no particular class standing, academic average, course of study, etc. that members of the club must oblige by.
d) All expulsions may be appealed by the expelled member to the Undergraduate Student Government, but until the appeal is decided, the member shall not enjoy the rights nor privileges of membership.
Section 2. Method of becoming a member
a) To become a member, a person must adhere to Article II Section 1. The number of persons who may be members shall not be limited.
Article IV -- Officers, Elections, Tenure and Faculty Advisor
Section 1. Officers
a) The officers of this organization shall be the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.
b) Those elected to hold office must have a minimum of a 2.0 Grade Point Average and must have been rightfully elected into office. See Article IV Section 2.
c) The President shall preside at all meetings, set clear and attainable goal(s) for the club at the beginning of each semester, monitor the club’s progress toward the accomplishment of the goal(s) and the all other officers, motivate the members of the club and be a member of the Council of the student club/organizations or his/her designee which should be submitted in writing to the Undergraduate Student Government. Moreover, the President should strive to achieve the mission of this club. To do so the President is expected to help recruit and retain members as membership is the lifeblood of the club. The President is also responsible for agenda setting and for making certain the Vice-President is prepared to preside in their absence and it is the President’s responsibility to prepare the next term’s president for their duties.
d) The Vice-President shall assume the duties of President in the absence of the President, it is therefore vital for the Vice-President to be well-organized and be familiar with all the responsibilities of the President. Additional responsibilities of the Vice President include making sure that attendance is taken at every meeting and that a personal record of each club member is documented. The main job of the Vice-President is to assist the President in fulfilling the club’s mission. It is the Vice-President’s responsibility to prepare the next term’s Vice-President for their duties. The Vice-President must attend all meetings unless excused by the President.
e) The Treasurer shall maintain whatever account may exist in the SSC Business Office (NAC 1/210A), and shall be responsible for filing the budget requests with the Undergraduate Student Government. He/She shall periodically give an account of the club’s finances to the membership, and the Finance Committee of the Undergraduate Student Government upon notice of request. The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, inform the club of its financial strengths and weakness, disburse funds and pay bills promptly. Furthermore, it is the Treasurer’s responsibility to pass all financial records, receipts and files to the next Treasurer-elect and help prepare the next term’s Treasurer for their duties. The Treasurer must attend all meetings unless excused by the President.
f) The Secretary shall take minutes and forward a copy of all approved minutes to the Undergraduate Student Government. The Secretary is also given the responsibility to communicate with other clubs and organization when deemed necessary. The Secretary is also expected to make sure that all club actions are constitutional. It is the Secretary’s responsibility to help prepare the next term’s Secretary for their duties. The Secretary must attend all meetings unless excused by the President.
Section 2. Elections, Tenure
a) Elections shall be held in the last full class week before finals week in the Spring Semester.
b) Those wishing to run for office must have a 2.0 Grade Point Average and must be nominated for the selected position by three fellow members of the club, not including himself/herself. Each position must have a minimum of two individuals nominated before the voting process. Once nominees are decided on, candidates are elected by majority count. No individual can hold more than one position during one term.
c) If the group wishes to remove an officer for not doing his job they must approach the President with the compliant and must be able to provide evidence to back up their claim. The decision will then be made by the President as to whether the officer should be removed. Should the group wish to remove the President from office then the same procedure must be conducted and the final decision will be made by a majority vote of all active club members whose name appear on the official roster and have attended fifty percent of the meetings that semester. No officer can be removed during the first month of office.
d) The Tenure shall be one year. The new officers shall take office two weeks after elections. This allows all former executives to train the newly elected executives.
Section 3. Faculty Advisor
a) A Faculty Advisor shall be elected at the elections meeting of the Spring semester.
Section 4. Resignation & Succession
a) If an executive wishes to resign from their position they must present a written resignation to the President and he or she will decide upon a replacement. The replacement must be agreed upon by the executives and members.
b) Order of Succession
1. Vice President shall be the President in the event that the incumbent President resigns or is impeached.
2. Treasurer shall be the Vice President in the event that the incumbent Vice President resigns or is impeached.
3. The Secretary shall be the Treasurer in the event that the incumbent Treasurer resigns or is impeached.
4. A Member voted by members shall be Secretary in the event that the incumbent Secretary resigns or is impeached.
Article V -- Meeting and Quorum, Rules of Order
Section 1. Meeting
This club shall meet at least twice a month.
Section 2. Quorum
A quorum consisting of two officers plus fifty percent of members in good standing is necessary for the transaction of any business.
Section 3. Rules of Order Members of the club (and only members of the club) are each given one vote. All parliamentary questions not determined by the constitution or these By-Laws shall be decided according to Robert's Rules of Order Revised
Article VI -- Amendment Procedures
Section 1.
All amendments to this constitution shall require at least two-thirds affirmative vote of the membership. Amendments shall be voted on one regular membership meeting at least one week later, or through majority vote for a special meeting. They shall take effect only upon approval by the Undergraduate Student Senate.
Article VII -- Dissolution of the Club
Section 1.
a)In the event of dissolution of this club, all accrued funds and assets generated from student activity fees shall be returned to the Undergraduate Student Government.
b)All funds and assets not generated from student activity fees shall be donated to the City College of New York to better student life on campus.
